    TEDx!!!

I am incredibly honored and humbled to have been selected to speak at the TEDx Brandman University symposium on May 11th. This has been a goal of mine for three years now, so finally being able to take part in something so remarkable is truly humbling. The theme of this symposium is “Igniting ConneXion” — something we need more of after a year of isolation. Thank you again to Brandman University for this incredible opportunity. #TEDx #tedxtalks #tedxspeaker #tedxevents #ignit

    Failure is just the beginning...

I've had a lot of conversations with people about failure. There is a 13-year old young woman I have been privileged to work with for the last several months, who I've been told was drastically different the previous year. The way she was described was constantly getting in fights, getting kicked out of classes, and ultimately failing any and all classes she did show up to. When I began working with her, I could instantly see what a special young woman she was. Even thoug

    New Year, New Horizons

Anyone who works in education knows how busy things can get during the school year. We have just finished the end of two blissful weeks off for winter break, and I literally took all two weeks OFF. Completely off. (Now I know what you're thinking - it's been a lot longer than two weeks since I've written anything, and you'd be right in pointing that out. What I HAVE been doing the last two months while not writing anything for my organization has been the intense, trying

    with heart project vlog!

I've gotten a lot of questions about exactly HOW I can make a difference with youth in a "youth empowerment coaching" sense, so I decided to make a video about exactly what my organization does. I've made several new contacts and partnerships over the last several weeks, and am so proud to be on the ground level launching this important work and shaping education for years to come. :) See more below... #withheartproject #vlog #with #heart #project #youth #empowerment #coach

    Stop the Stigma

There has always been a stigma surrounding mental health and mental illness. Perhaps it's because we can't physically SEE signs & symptoms of mental illness. If someone is suffering from depression, they may have figured out a way to hide it so it doesn't manifest itself in outward physical symptoms. There are certainly people who look and act like they are depressed (low energy, crying, sleeping a lot, easily agitated), but oftentimes these physical signs are dismissed as

going through massive life changes sometimes inspires us to look at the past and analyze our experiences to make decisions about where we want our future to go. i've done this at multiple points in my life, but of note are the following circumstances: *my first year in college at UCSC - i was nearing the end of my freshman year in college and trying to figure out what i wanted my major to be. i enrolled and was accepted in the "undeclared/undecided" major. i was 18 at the

    my path

when i was growing up, i had no idea what i wanted to do. when i was a kid, i loved playing tetherball with my sisters. i loved drawing, particularly drawing people and families and faces. i did well in school (not "straight A student" well, but good enough to get into a good college out of high school). i played sports, did volunteer work, loved hanging with my friends, but ultimately i had no idea what i wanted to do with my life or where i was going. at the beginning
